We all wish this iPod Classic case for the iPhone was real

A lot of us were very sad to see the demise of the iPod Classic, but we might be able to forgive Apple’s indiscretions if it went ahead and released this case that turns an iPhone into the next best thing.

Sadly at this point in time the case is not a real product from Apple or any third party accessories manufacturer. Instead it’s a concept from Claudio Gomboli. But imagine if it was real, and it did have Apple’s backing? That would be glorious.

The concept details a case that is 3mm thick, has a leather finish, and a sapphire crystal window. The idea is that once the case is closed, the phone’s display will shrink to mimic the window from the iPod classic and the touchwheel will be used to navigate through your music library. Aside from the devices being a different shape to an iPod, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

But here’s the bad news: Unless this case gets the approval of the Apple overlords there is no way it could ever be used on a non-jailbroken device because of how strict Apple’s control over the iOS interface actually is.

While it might be a little trickier to actually implement the changing interface, the design of the case itself could be done in no time at all. It’s a shame this will never come to be really, because I can see the updated version of the classic design going down very well with the masses.
