Retrojam creates playlists of the popular music throughout your lifetime

Nostalgia and music are both wonderful things, so why not take a couple of minutes out of your day to experience them both? That’s the point of Retrojam, a site that creates playlists of the most popular music from throughout your lifetime.

All you need to do is enter your birthdate, and Retrojam will generate a set of playlists based on key periods in your life. To start with you’ll get a special playlist of the popular music from when you were born, and then one new playlist every year from the age of seven.

For some reason Mariah Carey was incredibly popular around the time I was born, contributing four of the 25 songs in my Birthday Playlist. It was also the time that saw the release of the narcissist’s anthem that was ‘I’m Too Sexy’ by Right Said Fred, and the one Michael Bolton song everyone everywhere knows (When a Man Loves a Woman).

As I progressed I started noticing that there was less and less music that I actually like popping up in my playlists (there was also nothing by S Club 7, what’s up with that?). That’s a key problem with just going with what’s popular when, since the music tastes of the majority are constantly changing. My tastes are still stuck with the popular music of the 70s and 80s, so it would be nice if I could specify what genres I liked and have Retrojam craft more suitable, personalised, playlists.

But not everyone is as fussy as me, and if you want to spend a little while reminiscing about the music of your childhood then you should definitely give Retrojam a try. It all plays through Spotify as well, so if you find anything good you can slap it into your playlist to enjoy in the future.
