CES 2015: The Portege Z20t is Toshiba’s brand new lightweight laptop/tablet hybrid

Sometimes having a laptop is just too much, but having a standalone tablet isn’t good enough to suit your needs. Why not settle for the best of both with a laptop/tablet hybrid? Their popularity has been kicking off recently, and Toshiba has announced a brand new offering at CES 2015.

Coming in with a 12.5-inch screen, and weighing 725 grams, the Portege Z20t is a Windows 8 tablet that’s Toshiba’s answer to Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3. Though that comparison is a little unfair considering that the Z20t is more of a laptop with a removable keyboard than a laptop-esque tablet.

So what hardware will it come packed with? The Z20t has a 12.5-inch 1080p touchscreen display, a choice of 4GB or 8GB of RAM, 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of solid state storage, and Intel’s new Core M processor that runs so efficiently the Z20t doesn’t need a fan to cool down.

The tablet part comes with micro HDMI output, micro USB, a slot for a micro SD card, and a nine hour battery life. Using the keyboard lets you utilise HMDI, ethernet, 2 USB 3.0 ports, as well as boosting the battery life to 17.5 hours.

We don’t have any specific information on UK pricing or availability just yet, but the Z20t is going on sale in the US later this month with prices starting at $1,399 (£912).
