Apple might be heading into the world of virtual reality

Everyone seems to have their own virtual reality ambitions these days, and from the sounds of things Apple might be looking to join the likes of Oculus, Samsung, Sony, and Google by developing virtual reality apps of its own.

A recent Apple job listing indicates that the company is looking for an app developer with experience creating for iOS, OS X, as well as ‘VR/AR development’. It doesn’t go into much more detail, but it doesn’t take a genius to see what Apple’s plans might be.

While the iPhone and iPad haven’t really been left out of things when it comes to virtual reality, it would make sense that Apple wouldn’t want to leave it in the hands of third parties. Of course once Apple gets in on smaller things they do tend to kick off quite considerable (like NFC payments), the only real difference here being that virtual reality is already pretty far along thanks to Oculus.

So what could Apple bring to the table? Who knows. It’s unlikely that this one job opening represents the company’s entire investment in VR, so it’ll be interesting to see if any more information pops up about what’s going on behind the scenes.
