A 27-inch 5K iMac could be released by the end of the year

We’ve heard an awful lot about the iPhone 6 and the Apple Watch recently, but what about Apple’s other products? What about the Macs that kicked off the company’s success all those years ago? We heard some rumours at the end of July about a 4K 27-inch iMac display, but we’ve heard almost nothing since. Well now the rumours indicate that it could be a 5K 27-inch iMac that’s on the way.

Apparently the Retina 27-inch “5K3K” (5120 x 2880) Thunderbolt Display is currently being worked on in Apple’s test labs, ready to take on the upcoming 5K monitor from the folks at Dell. According to reports it could even be on shelves in time for Christmas.

The reports also claim that this released is “expected to spur a new wave of demand for ultra high-resolution monitors,” meaning we could be seeing the end of 1080p in favour of screens with superior resolution. I don’t think anyone is going to complain about that, provided they aren’t overpriced.

It’s still a rumour for now, so we can’t take it as the absolute truth. But it would be nice to see Apple move away from the Retina display in favour of something with a better pixel density and sharper image, so let’s hope that part of the report is incorrect.
