Apple finally has a tool to disconnect your number from iMessage

Anyone who’s ever ditched their iPhone in favour of something else will know that the changeover period can end up with text messages being lost to the depths of iMessage purgatory, never to be seen again. No Apple has released a solution, and it’s about time too.

Apple now has a web tool to ensure that your number is well and truly disconnected from iMessage before you make the switch. All you need to do is enter your phone number, then enter the six digit code Apple sends to you and you’re sorted. No more lost messages for you.

The problem has been around since 2011, and it’s rather shocking that it’s taken Apple this long to work something out. That being said it is better than never having a solution arrive at all.

So would be defectors to Android or Windows Phone should feel safe in the knowledge that the attempts to communicate them will not be lost forever.
