Vodafone and EE are buying some closed Phones 4U stores

When Phones 4U went into administration some 5,596 staff members were potentially left without jobs for the immediate future. Fortunately a significant number of those jobs are to be saved from unlikely sources: Vodafone, EE, and Dixons Carphone.

Vodafone also announced that it was taking over 140 of the closed retail outlets, saving 900 jobs. Today EE announced that it would be purchasing 58 Phones 4U outlets, saving 359 jobs. This comes after Dixons Carphone announced that it would be saving 800 former Phones 4U employees from hanging around waiting for their appointments in the local job centre.

The timing of the announcements by EE and Vodafone are awfully fishy, especially since they had planned a joint takeover of Phones 4U back in June and were both responsible for the store’s collapse. That being said, I doubt the 1,259 staff members will mind that they actually have jobs for the immediate future.

Sadly there will still be nearly 3,500 former Phones 4U staff without jobs following the administration, here’s just hoping they don’t have to look for something else for very long.
