Monophix is probably the most comprehensive monochrome photo editing app for the iPhone. It allows you to do all kinds of things to your image, including adjusting the light and dark shade intensities, tweaking exposure and grain and enabling a few different kinds of vignetting. All of the different settings allow you to play around with intensity with the help of handy little sliders too, so you can control EXACTLY how your final image will look. The photos generally take a while to render after you've edited them, but they're always of a really high quality, so I'm willing to overlook that little point. Available from iTunes for £0.69.
There are options within most of our favourite photo apps that turn mobile images into monochrome masterpieces, try the Inkwell filter when you’re using Instagram or Mono and 1962 if you’re a fan of Camerabag. However, if you LOVE monochrome images and you’re not interested in other filters the more popular photos apps have to offer, then try downloading an app which will let you play around with ONLY black and white settings instead.
There are lots of photo apps specially created for monochrome lovers, but as you’d expect many are just far too similar to mention. So here’s our pick of the best four black and white photo apps for the iPhone, including those that really quickly transform your images to those that give you a bit more choice and freedom.
