CES 2015: Could Bang & Olufsen’s BeoSound Moment be the most intuitive wireless speaker yet?

Bang & Olufsen has unveiled the BeoSound Moment, a beautiful wireless music system that’s able to learn your music tastes over time, and has the world’s first touch-sensitive wood interface.

Shown at CES 2015 this week, our favourite-sounding part of the BeoSound Moment is the fact that it learns your music tastes and will be able to play what you want to hear, without you asking it! This includes a new, intelligent feature that adapts your listening patterns and suggests music or radio programmes that fit with the relevant day of the week and the time of day, while the advanced PatternPlay feature automatically memorises your musical preferences and makes your listening experience both familiar and explorative.

The BeoSound Moment also has something called a MoodWheel, which sounds absolutely brilliant. It’s a wheel that lights up in different colours, each representing a different mood, from yellow to green to red. According to Bang & Olufsen, a single touch on the multi-coloured MoodWheel activates an automatically generated playlist defined by the colour of the wheel, and your finger’s position on the wheel. The closer to the centre of the wheel, the more familiar the music.

Of course, being a Bang & Olufsen product, the BeoSound Moment has a unique design, in its detachable and double-sided interface, allowing for two different listening experiences. One side is aluminium with a touch screen, where you can browse Deezer’s online music catalogue, your favourite playlists and share your music collection, while the wooden side is designed for one-touch access to PatternPlay.

Marie Kristine Schmidt Vice President, Brand, Design & Marketing Bang & Olufsen, said: ‘As a modern, cloud based music system, BeoSound Moment will offer software updates with new features and improvements. We have prepared a firm software update roadmap for BeoSound Moment including the deployment of a very compelling multi-room experience that encompasses both television and other audio products planned for Summer 2015.’

We’re very intrigued by the BeoSound Moment, as it sounds like an even better (and, obviously, better looking) version of Spotify. Only time will tell whether the sound quality lives up to the concept.

BeoSound Moment will be available to buy for £1,795, which includes 12 months of prepaid Deezer Premium+, exclusively at Bang & Olufsen stores from 30th January.
