As Survey Suggests Young Women are Addicted to Facebook, we ask: Are you Really?

872 facebook 1.jpgIt’s been documented how keen women are on social networking, but a survey showing that 34% of 18-34 year olds check Facebook first thing after waking up is still a surprise. That’s even before going to the bathroom, in case you’re wondering.

The research by Oxygen/Lightspeed asked 1,605 adults using social media between May and June of this year about their online habits.

Reporting on the findings, Mashable flagged up the fact that young women (18-34) are completely focussed on their Facebook accounts. Here are the stats:

– 57% say they talk to people online more than face-to-face.
– 39% of them proclaim themselves Facebook addicts
– 21% check Facebook in the middle of the night
– 34% check it first thing in the morning before going to the bathroom

Other research showed that women use it to keep tabs on “frenemies” (58%), boyfriends (49% thinking it’s fine to have access to his account) and to find dates (50%) or hook-ups (6%)… which doesn’t surprise me much at all.

We’d like to see some comparable statistics for men before we jump to any conclusions on this one, but what do you think ladies..? We’re conducting our own little survey here:
