Top 10 cycling gadgets: See.Sense, Lock8, Firefly and more

Ever since the Olympics, more and more women in the UK are getting on their bikes, with Sport England reporting a 200,000 increase in regular cyclists and this year’s Tour de France kicking off in Yorkshire only adding to our enthusiasm for literally jumping on the saddle. But whether you see yourself as the next Victoria Pendleton or simply like biking to work, you probably want to stay safe, keep track of your fitness progress, and of course, have constant access to your phone. Here are a few gadgets and gizmos to increase your pedal power.

Mio Link

Picture 5 of 10

Mio Link is a heart rate monitor that you wear on your wrist, where it monitors your pulse and allows you to track your fitness level over time, without being bulky like a traditional chest monitor. Even better, when used with the free Mio GO app (for iOS and Android), you can see how you’d hold up to the rigours of the Tour de France from the comfort of your own home/gym. The app has video content from 70 courses around the globe, including the TdF, and the video syncs up with your level of effort. So you can hop on an exercise bike, flip on your iPad, and either take a leisurely look at the French countryside, or barely notice it whipping by, depending on how effective you want your workout to be. Either way, it beats watching Loose Women.

It's available in small/medium and large, from £80.06 at Amazon.
