CES 2016: Sphero announces Star Wars Force Band

At CES 2016 in Las Vegas, connected play brand Sphero announced its first wearable gadget dubbed the Force band. Expanding outside of Sphero’s usual heritage app-enabled robotic experiences, the Force band attaches to the wrist and utilises gesture-based controls to operate the BB-8 app-enabled Droid product.

“Branching out of app-enabled robotics and into new categories that enhance play patterns and user experience has always been our goal,” said Paul Berberian, CEO. “We continue to broaden the realm of what’s possible when it comes to robotics and as a result are able to deepen the connection between user and the app-enabled BB-8 Droid™ product. The introduction of our first gesture based wearable is a major milestone for Sphero.”

Additionally, Sphero revealed a special edition battle-worn BB-8 App-Enabled Droid toy. Featuring movie-replica deco, the battle-worn BB-8™ Droid™ product draws inspiration directly from the BB-8, the breakout spherical star, as seen in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

The Force band and special edition BB-8™ app-enabled Droid™ toy will be available Autumn 2016 at retailers globally.

Force Band Features:

  • Controls the BB-8™ app-enabled Droid™ toy from Sphero through gestures like Force push, pull and drive.
  • Will enable the BB-8™ Droid™ product to follow its user as a result of arm motions and directional moves.
  • Compatible only with the BB-8™ app-enabled Droid™ toy.
