Most people who have children want to leave them a legacy, whether it’s their most treasured jewellery, enough money to buy their own home, or just a quiet sense of inner confidence. Gwyneth Paltrow is no different, except what she wants to leave her children… is Goop.
As Vanity Fair spotted, she did an interview with Bloomberg where she talked about her ‘aspirational’ lifestyle newsletter/site and its ridiculously overpriced recommendations. ($550 travel backgammon set, anyone? How about a vase that costs $12,000 – that’s only £7,948.40, don’t be stingy.)
She told them that the aim of Goop, which she launched in 2008, isn’t to showcase a super luxe lifestyle but to highlight different products (plus, er, ‘services’ like vagina steaming, of course) at a range of price points, and that most people who mock it probably haven’t read it. She claimed that the site has some things that cost $4 and while I couldn’t find any, I did see some wrapping paper for $5 a sheet. Which probably feels like a bargain if you have Gwynnie’s bank balance.
She also said that she never intended for Goop to become so associated with her – that in twenty years she hopes it will become its own brand, possibly one that her children would want to take over. Can’t wait to find out what Apple and Moses are having steamed in 2035.
