Dixons Carphone wants to launch its own network as well

The world of mobile networks is going through a lot of changes at the moment, whith EE being bought by BT, O2 possibly being taken over by the company that owns Three, and Sky launching its own O2-based network. Now Dixons Carphone might be the latest company to join the fray.

According to the Financial Times, the Dixons Carphone is launching a network in association with Three and it will be designed to let users change aspects of their contract without having to wait for renewal. That means no more waiting until your two years are up to get rid of the unlimited minutes tariff you don’t actually need.

Apparently these new contracts will also come bundled with connectivity for smart home devices, though how this will work is unclear.

What is clear is that having its own network will ease Dixons Carphone’s reliance on the major networks, meaning it’s far less likely to end up going the same way as Phones 4U. The chances of that happening anytime soon are slim, given that EE, Vodafone, and O2 have pledged their allegiance to the company, but it seems Dixons Carphone is doing everything it can.
