CES 2015: McDonalds is going to offer free wireless charging

You’ve been able to go to McDonalds and grab your Big Macs with a side order of Wi-Fi for quite some time now, and in the near future you’ll be able to go to McDonalds and wirelessly charge your phones thanks to a deal with AirCharge.

Announced by Aircharge at CES, the deal will see 600 Aircharge Qi chargers will be installed in McDonalds in the country, allowing anybody with a compatible phone to charge their phone while they chow down on their McFlurry. Fortunately if you don’t have a phone with wireless charging, Aircharge will also be installing wireless charging receivers so you don’t miss out.

The move comes following a limited trial of wireless charging stations, and according to the Wireless Power Consortium people were actually waiting up to 30 minutes for a chance to use a charger.

The downside is that the wireless chargers will only be available in 50 of the 1,200 branches of McDonalds in the UK. The other downside is a lot of those branches are be located in London.

That being said, this is just the first stage of what is likely to be a very large expansion. If you’re patient, maybe your local McDonalds will start offering wireless charging and you can power up your phone while you eat some lovely junk food.
