Vodafone is reportedly in talks to buy blinkbox

According to a report from The Telegraph, Vodafone is in talks to purchase Tesco’s blinkbox video streaming service which is apparently being sold at a discount price.

The report also states that Tesco has been looking to sell off the service for some time, all because it’s not proving cost effective and has raked up a deficit of £18.5 million.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Vodafone was looking to enter the TV and broadband business, so having a service such as blinkbox on hand would definitely be an advantage. Even if blinkbox is a platform for buying and renting video content, rather than the subscription model offered by Amazon and Netflix.

At the moment it’s not clear what the sale of blinkbox would mean, and whether or not the likes of blinkbox music would be included. What I really want to know is whether or not we’ll still be able to get digital copies of all out Tesco-bought DVDs and Blu-rays on blinkbox after it gets sold. Probably not.
