Thought your iPhone was on mute? Think again

As I ranted last week (and enraged every Apple fanboy on the internet, it seems), the iPhone mute switch is a baffling piece of tech. There are already volume buttons which could (should) do the same thing, it doesn’t stop your phone from vibrating, and now it seems it doesn’t even work.

Lemon.

A bug discovered by Paul Curry at UsVsTh3m allows a website to override the iPhone’s mute function, making noise even when your phone is supposedly silenced. Don’t believe us? In the words of Neil Buchanan, try it yourself.

For shame, iOS. For shame.

Update: we’re getting reports that it doesn’t work on some iPhones – the plot thickens.
