A job listing suggests Apple Pay’s European expansion is well under way

Apple Pay is doing pretty well for itself over in the US, but right now that’s the only country where you can use the iPhone 6’s contactless payment system.. We all assumed the service would make its way to the UK and Europe one day, and if this new job listing is anything to go by then those plans are already well under way.

According to a job listing discovered by iClarified (now mysteriously absent from the Apple careers website), Apple is recruiting an Intern to provide administrative assistance to the London-based Apple Pay team.

The listing also states that the team is responsible for helping the system “to expand across Europe, Middle East, India, and Africa.” Sadly the listing does not have any specific details other than the fact that the intern will be helping the team to ensure the rollout goes ahead smoothly and that none of the partners blow the whistle on the operation.

We know that Visa has been in discussions with Apple to help implement Apple Pay in Europe, but that last time we heard anything about that was back in September. We still have no idea when it will be arriving here, but if the team is actively recruiting then it makes sense that they’re working hard at it.

As soon as Apple announces anything officially, we’ll let you know. Just don’t anticipate it anytime soon.
