Apple’s share of the UK smartphone market has hit an all-time high

The iPhone 6 has been a resounding success for Apple. Not only has it broken sales records for it’s initial release it’s also helped increase Apple’s share of the UK smartphone market to an all-time high of 39.5%.

A three month period ending in October saw the number of iPhones rise by 10.4%, and Kantar Worldpanel ComTech has reported that the massive success of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is the reason for the increased market share in the UK, USA, and Australia.

Brand loyalty has also been a factor, with many iPhone 6 sales being driven by loyal Apple customers. 86% of British people who bought a new iPhone upgraded from an older handset, whereas only 5% switched from a Samsung device.

But despite the seemingly universal popularity of the iPhone, Apple’s market share hasn’t quite managed to get the edge over Android’s 52.3% UK market share. That’s not a trend unique to us either, in the same period Android had the majority of the market share in the US, Australia, across Europe, and even in China.

Sadly Windows Phone and Blackberry are not as lucky as Android and Apple, having only a 7.7% and 0.3% UK market share respectively.
