Would you buy the Galaxy S6 if it looked like this?

The Galaxy Note 4 has been released, and the Galaxy Note Edge is heading our way relatively soon, so it’s hardly surprising that speculation has begun about the Samsung Galaxy S6. You may be surprised to hear that somebody has already thrown together a concept based on the rumours and speculation that we’ve seen already.

The people at VoucherCodesPro.co.uk decided that it would be a good idea to try and figure out what the phone might look like after launch, and the results are, erm… Interesting to say the very least. The version of the phone that the site came up with has a 5.5-inch display, a metal frame, a black rubber back panel, a 4K resolution curved display with rounded edges, and mini-HDMI output at the bottom of the phone.

The first thing that strikes me as being off is the rubber back panel, simply because its unlike anything Samsung has ever done before. Anyone who’s paid attention to recent Samsung flagships will tell you that the company has a tendency to use a faux-leather backing. In fact, the improved leather-esque material on the Galaxy Note 4 was praised by some outlets for feeling less tacky, and the company even released its first all metal phone in the form of the Galaxy Alpha. Swapping to rubber seems like Samsung would be taking a step back, and releasing a phone that looks reminiscent of the cheap rubber cases you buy on eBay might not be the best move.

The image also shows off a mini-HDMI port at the bottom of the phone, and the information released alongside it claims that the charging port will also be here. Hopefully the plan isn’t to use the mini-HDMI to try and charge the phone, because that just isn’t going to work. HDMI isn’t powered you see. Hopefully that’s just a slip-up by whoever put the concept images together.

The curved display is an interesting choice, especially since recent comments from an analyst set off rumours that the S6 would have two Note Edge-style curved displays. The Galaxy Note Edge has shown itself to be rather popular, especially given that a recent petition to have it put on sale in Germany was successful. It doesn’t seem far-fetched to assume that this sort of display would be included in the S6, even if it’s just another limited edition concept or a variant.

You can’t really see it in the concept, but a 5.5-inch 4K display does sound like a reasonable assumption. 5.5-inches is a step up from the S5’s 5.1-inch display, but it does have the problem of starting to fall under the phablet moniker. Similarly 4K is an obvious step up from the QHD display in the Galaxy Note 4 and S5, but we’ll have to see whether or not Samsung is willing to make that jump so soon.

But since Samsung promised to ditch plastic earlier this year, the one thing we can be sure will definitely be included in the Galaxy S6 is a metal frame. Long live the metal frame.
