The new Bruvelo coffee maker is controlled by app

It’s the dream for all of us who struggle to get up in the morning, especially at this time of year: a coffee maker you can turn on without having to get out of bed.

Bruvelo is a new app-controlled coffee maker powered by WiFi. To use, you just open the app, pick from one of three flavour settings – Delicate, Balanced or Robust – and the machine will filter water, weigh and grind beans, and keep your coffee hot until you’re ready to drink it.

Unlike a lot of coffee makers, you’re not restricted to pods, meaning you can use any beans you like and have a more personalised brew. You can even create settings for how long you want different beans to be steeped, so a quick flick automatically creates the perfect cup. (Remembering which beans you put in the machine the night before is on you, though, because machines can’t do everything. Yet.)

The Bruvelo isn’t quite ready for the shops, but Dustin Sell and his team are raising money on Kickstarter in order to bring it to your kitchen. If you want to get in on the action, $300 (£186) plus postage will bag you one of the first. So far, they’ve raised over $63,000 towards their goal of $150,000 (around £93,000) but with so many sleepy smartphone owners in the world, it’d be pretty surprising if they didn’t hit their target when the campaign ends on 22 November.

They hope to start shipping orders in June, so next time the clocks go back, you’ll be able to start making a warm cup of wake-up juice before you’ve even popped your slippers on, instead of struggling out of bed and messing with coffee filters (or worse, a jar of instant). The app should also be available for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. But don’t worry if you’re Internet of Things-wary, you can also use it without WiFi, just like in the olden days.
