Massuni launches design-your-own-furniture Kickstarter

How many times have you found the perfect piece of furniture for that awkward corner in the living room, but it’s just a couple of centimetres too big, or thought that you would have snapped up that bookcase if only the lower shelf were deep enough for your Encyclopaedia Britannica? Most of us have had to settle for at least one piece of less-than-perfect furniture, even when we expand our horizons beyond Argos and Ikea.

A new furniture start-up wants to change all that, by giving us exactly the furniture we want/need (and making us feel like interior designers as a bonus). Massuni is a furniture manufacturer whose humble goal for their website is ‘to eventually have every piece of furniture in the known universe’. For now they have 100, all of which can be customised to your exact requirements, from dimensions to style to finish. Prices start at $180 (around £112) for a three shelf bookcase.

The site’s not fully operational yet, though: they’ve just launched a Kickstarter to make it a reality. The Canadian company is seeking $75,000 to finish their customer interface and start production. Pledging $8 gives you a say on future furniture styles, and pitching in $153 gets you that small bookcase for a discounted rate. You’ll have to wait until next summer for it to show up, of course, but becoming a furniture designer in less than a year is still pretty impressive.
