Apple is ‘not that interested’ in making a touchscreen Mac

A number of people were hoping that Apple would unveil some sort of touchscreen Mac at last week’s event, and those people were very disappointed. Well according to Craig Federighi, Apple senior vice president of software engineering, the company isn’t likely to be releasing one anytime soon.

Speaking to CNET, Federighi said:

“We don’t think it’s the right interface, honestly. Mac is sort of a sit-down experience. . .We’ve really focused on building the best track pads we can, something where it feels [like] your posture’s relaxed, it’s a comfortable machine to use, and, of course, over the years we’ve experimented with all the technology, but we found it just wasn’t good. … We’re not all that interested in building one.”

He later added that the iPhone and iPad could be kept in a comfortable position, which made the touchscreen worthwhile, whereas having one on a Mac would require you to keep leaning forward all the time.

So those of you who were waiting for a computer/tablet hybrid from the folks at Apple are out of luck, you will be waiting rather a long time.
