Retina iMacs might be on the way

While they haven’t been ignored as much as the humble Mac Mini, there’s no denying that we’re about due for an iMac upgrade. According to rumours from 9to5Mac we might be seeing Retina iMacs hit our shelves in the near future.

We don’t know when exactly, but 9t05Mac claims that the new machines are in the late stages of testing. The site speculates that they could be ready to launch alongside OS X Yosemite next month, but there is no real evidence to corroborate that.

The betas of OS X Yosemite highlight resolutions of 6400 x 3600, 5760×3240, and 4096×2304, and since rumours have been circulating that Apple is working on a 5K screen this could fit in quite nicely. Sources also indicate that Final Cut Pro and iMovie are going to get an upgrade, one that will supply users with the necessary tools to edit 4K footage.

Apple is rumoured to be holding an event sometime next month where it is expected to unveil the new iPad Air, amongst other things. Since this also ties in with the launch of OS X Yosemite it would be the ideal time to see some new Mac hardware, even if it isn’t exactly what has been rumoured.
