Barclaycard has unveiled the bPay wristband for contactless payments

Barclaycard has announced a new wearable device that allows people to make mobile payments with their wrist. The bPay is an NFC enabled wristband for making contactless payments up to £20 in some shops and on public transport.

bPay bands are expected to be offered to all Barclaycard customers in the future, and can be linked to any UK Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card, and will not incur any extra usage fees for the customer.

All places that currently accept NFC payments will reportedly accept bPay, including the Co-Op, Subway, McDonalds, Starbucks, and the London Underground. Barclays are also giving away bPay wristbands to the first 100,000 people who express their interest on the Barclaycard website.

So until Apple Pay and the Apple Watch are launched in this country, it means that Barclaycard customers can still have the advantage of paying for goods and services with their wrists.
