Apple TV has had a software update with a brand new design

Apple TV is probably the most neglected of all Apple’s products, not getting the same annual releases that the likes of the iPhone and the iPad get. But iOS 8 wasn’t the only software to get an update yesterday, since Apple quietly updated the software in Apple TV as well.

The brand new interface comes with a fresh design that’s reminiscent of changes to iOS introduced in iOS 7, with the same flat icons and thinner text, meaning that all of Apple’s products now have the same design interface that everyone is familiar with.

Also included is a brand new Beats Music Channel, as well as support for Family Sharing which allows users to connect multiple Apple ID accounts to a single credit card and allows users to share their purchases with each other.

We haven’t heard much about hardware updates for Apple TV for quite some time now, and even the rumour mill has been relatively quiet. That being said, with the TV streaming business heating up with the likes of Chromecast and Roku on the market, it makes sense for Apple to provide some support for the device. Whether that means we’ll see a newer set-top box in the future has yet to be seen.
