Mobile rumours: Imminent launch of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and Note 4

The world of mobile news is scary and complicated, with rumours flying about all over the place about what the many different companies are planning on doing. If you don’t know what you’re looking for then chances are you won’t get very far, so to ease your burden here are some of today’s biggest mobile rumours.

1. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha briefly popped up for pre-order, revealing price and specs

The Galaxy Alpha leaks just keep coming. Yesterday it was pictures of the device, and today it’s a pre-order listing that shouldn’t have been online yet. Appearing on the website of UK retailer Mobile Fun, it looks as though the Galaxy Alpha will come with a 4.7-inch 720p AMOLED display, 32GB of internal storage, a fingerprint scanner, an Octa core Exynos processor, and a 12MP camera. It will run on Androird 4.4.2 (KitKat) and will cost £549 SIM free. No release date was listed, but it’s unlikely we’ll have to wait long at this stage.

As impressive as the processor sounds, I can’t help but wonder about the 720p display — especially with the price tag. Shouldn’t we be at the stage now where phones dubbed “iPhone killers” should at least have 1080p resolution? [Mobile Fun via Phones Review]

2. Samsung has sent out invites to an event on September 3rd

Those of you not impressed with the Galaxy Alpha needn’t worry, since Samsung has sent out invites to a press event on 3rd September. An event that is heavily rumoured to featured the unveiling of the Galaxy Note 4, the company’s new tablet. The event is also at the start of the IFA conference, which is known for its tech reveals. If you can speak German, the full invite is below.
