The World Cup broke loads of social media records!

Were you watching the match last night? The World Cup Final broke records on Facebook and Twitter last night, for social media usage.

Facebook revealed that 88 million people left more than 280 million posts, comments and likes about the Germany vs Argentina game, surpassing the previous record of 245 million interactions, held by the Superbowl XLVII.

Surprisingly, the most active country during the game was the US, while, unsurprisingly, males aged 18 to 24 were the most engaged.

Meanwhile, Twitter also broke a tweets-per-minute record set just a few days earlier, with a peak of 618,725 sent in a single minute as Germany won the game. However, the total amount of tweets sent was only 32.1 million, down significantly from Germany’s shocking 7-1 victory against Brazil, which with 35.6 million tweets remains Twitter’s most popular single sporting event ever.
