Apple’s CarPlay is coming to the VW

Apple is in talks with a number of new car manufacturers to bring iOS to our daily driving experiences. The latest brand to sign up? Well, it looks like Apple is making its way into Volkswagen and VW is in talks for this to happen in its 2016 models.

Mark Gurman from 9to5mac says:

‘Volkswagen’s VW line, one of the few notable holdouts from announcing future integration of CarPlay into its vehicles, is in talks with Apple to embed the iOS-based feature, according to a source with knowledge of the discussions.’

We know Apple has been ahead of the game with integration in cars for years now:

‘Apple has led consumer technology integration in the car for more than a decade. CarPlay brings your car and iPhone together for a thoughtful experience that lets drivers focus on driving, while also tapping into everything they want to do with their iPhone.’

In a recent press release from Apple, the tech giant announced that it’s working with Ferrari, Mercedes Benz and many more for their 2015 models. It’s a little strange to find VW being late to the party on this one, as they have had dealt with Apple before when they integrated the iPod into cars.

CarPlay is an exciting prospect for any car, I am excited to see where this all unfolds. Who knows maybe we will see Herbie driving around talking to Siri soon? I think the future of iOS and Android in cars is very appealing, I just hope its not over worked.
