Are Google set to buy Dropcam?

Another day, another acquisition rumour, and this time it seems Google is considering buying home security camera firm, Dropcam.

On the same day that it’s been claimed that Apple is turning the iPad into a home remote control, Google is also said to be expanding its home automation products, after recently buying thermostat company Nest.

According to The Information, Google’s Nest division is plotting a move into the home-security market and has considered acquiring connected camera-maker Dropcam to accelerate the push.

Dropcam sells a $150 internet-connected camera that can be controlled through an app, and also has email and smartphone alerts. The camera includes full 720p streaming, night vision, two-way talk back and digital zooming, along with bank-level security to encrypt all videos.

The camera company raised $30 million in funding last year, so it’s no wonder why Google is so interested.
