APP OF THE DAY: Cinemagram creates cool animated photos with filters

New iPhone app Cinemagram allows you to create cool animated photos, complete with Instagram-like filters. Clever, huh?

Here at Shiny Shiny we’re a little obsessed with quirky (and sometimes a little tacky) animated gif images that flicker or sway or move ever so slightly as we watch them. They just seem so magical, right?!

Well whether you love them or hate them an iPhone app called Cinemagram allows you to create them with ease and apply cool filters afterwards, all from within a really simple interface.

You start by recording a scene, just for a few seconds. You can then pinch to zoom in and select the specific area of the short clip you want to animate and there you have it, a photo/video hybrid! Instagram lovers will be happy to know you can then add a selection of different filters to your creation (or Cine), including Xpro, Toaster, Redscale and B&W.

Once you’ve finished you can share the image with the world, via email, Tumblr, Facebook or Twitter.

We’re not sure whether these animated images are a bit of a gimmick (although they have been around a while now and are a firm favourite on Tumblr), but they’re really fun to play around with and great for those who are a bit bored of regular photo editing apps.

The app isn’t free, but at 69p from iTunes it’s well worth the pennies.

If you’ve got the app but need a bit of inspiration, check out the Cinemagram team’s Tumblr full of lots of lovely shots.
