Apple industry complains tech group's dominance makes it impossible to advertise

That’s advertising for apple the fruit, that is. Digital marketing has become near impossible for apple growers, apparently, as if you google ‘apple’ you get none of the nutritional goodness and three pages of all this tech babble.

Not until page six do you get to the US Apple Association, whose job it is to push forward the industry and increased demand. We’re assuming search engine optimisation is not an alien concept for these people, but that tech’s monopolisation of the name ‘apple’ has just made it an impossible task.

The solution, apparently, is to change the wording slightly – from apple to apples. That’s right. Allison Parker, director of consumer health and education for the US Apple Association is spending her days pushing for people to include this important extra letter to their apple searches, as the hits immediately become more relevant.

Brand advisors take note.
