Lots of small social networking groups based around Ning web-software look set to close after announced an end to their free services hitting May 4th.

Ning is focussing on their paid-for services and shutting down the free elements of their site. Hosting a social network on the premium model currently costs $10 – $25 a month, it’s likely that the

Ning suggest that network hosts can make the money by crowdsourcing micro-payments from their users, by selling goods through the Ning store or by running ads through the Ning ad service.
