Tech prediction: Could Break-Dance Hero join the Guitar Hero games?

Guitar Hero has been around since 2005, letting frustrated rockers and wannabe popstars strum out to their hearts content with the plastic shaped peripheral. Rock Band joined in the fun with a drum kit, and there are mic options for wannabe warblers. Up till now, these options were pretty much all you got, even though people are getting quite excited about the forthcoming DJ Hero game. Still, I can’t help feel that the dancers are missing out. OK, at 26 I may be to old to ever entertain hopes of achieving Dirty Dancing style moves, but with the popularity of shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and So you Think You can Dance, I reckon Activision are missing a trick here.

A huge fan of the Dance mat of yore, it never really seemed to make a big hit with the PS3, leaving most of the great games on the PS1 and PS2 consoles (who didn’t love Dancing Stage Euromix?). I could envisage a nattily designed peripheral fitting right in with the Guitar Hero family, allowing dancers to use lights on the mat to bump and grind their way through various songs, adding to the whole dynamic of the game.

I’m sure issues would arise- firstly there might not be that many songs suitable to dance too, and if the gyrating virtual bodies on screen are anything to go bye, they’d need to get some serious help with characterization to make the dance section look appealing, Then we’d get to the problem of trying to fit all the different tracks on one screen- with someone on guitar, drums, a mic and a dance mat it could start looking messy. I reckon they could get around this by incorporating dance widgets and having them work as a stand alone piece of machinery.

And if the songs are too fast for real rhythmic action- how about breakdance hero? Combine rapping with moves on the floor for some serious cation, and tie that into the DJ Hero game to get clubbers attention?

The possibilities are endless…

Zara Rabinowicz edits Shiny Shiny and Kiss and Makeup and knows she’d rock out at Dance Hero, and thinks her backing dancer moves might help her rise to stardom (or a bit part in a Britney video).
