Twitter gave Facebook the cold shoulder for Google Friend Connect

friend_connect_illustration.jpgThere’s a new way to connect with friends through Google Friend Connect – via the microblogging phenomenon that is Twitter. Now you can log in using your Twitter credentials and tweet from any Google Friend Connect supported site thanks to the newly announced partnership. So what this essentially means is, when you join a friend connected site, you can opt to use your Twitter profile to discover people you follow on twitter who are also members of the site and potentially find new people to follow and if you must, tweet about the new website you’ve found.

All you’ve got to do is add Twitter to your profile and you’re good to go. Once that’s out the way, every time you visit a FC enabled site, the widget will highlight all the people you already know through Twitter. And if you love your Twitter profile more than the average person and your need to see it surpasses all levels of normality, you can opt to get rid of your Google profile and replace it with your Twitter one.

With portable social tools such as this, there really is no escape from one social networking site to the next.
