Blue-Ray Akoya 8610 laptop from Medion up for grabs

Medion’s foray into Blue-Ray laptops sounds like a great piece of multimedia kit. It’s powerful, it’s reasonably priced and it would make a great desktop replacement and Blue-Ray home entertainment centre. You can even use it as a Blue-ray player for your TV – just hook it up with a HDMI lead and you’re good to go. The Akoya 8610 is a beast of a laptop and as well as giving you the Blue-ray experience, Medion’s thrown in Dolby Home Theatre surround sound to make the viewing experience all the more pleasurable. As well as that, the Akoya packs in Nvidia GeForce 9600M GS graphics card for a great 3D gaming experience.

So multimedia hub aside, what else has it got? Find out after the jump…

It’s got an 18.4-inch screen with a screen res of 1,680 x 945 (so it won’t show off the Blue-ray quality in its 1080p entirety), an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4GB RAM and a 320GB hard drive. Medion ensures us it’s got great battery life, so until we put that statement to the test, all we can do is take their word for it.

This is the first laptop to adorn the virtual shelves of Blockbuster and there have been talks of some very interesting promotions next year – including 100 free Blue-ray rental vouchers with each lappy sold. It’ll also be available from Tesco’s and Medion’s online stores.

It’s not as pretty as say, a high end Sony or Apple laptop, but at £799 you’re getting great value for money.
