Android smartphone on the way from Kogan

kogan-agora-thumb-200x357.jpgOk, so we already know Nokia’s not in any hurry to bring us the next Android phone. But there is a contender waiting in the wings – the Kogan Agora. This Android based smartphone (which looks a little bit like a budget Blackberry) comes form a company that gets its products custom-made in Chinese factories. So, as well as possibly having to look out for poisonous amounts of lead in the surface paint, it’ll sell for an unbelievably low price.

So what’s the Agora packing in? For a start it has a 2.5-inch screen with a screen resolution of 320 x 240, full QWERTY keyboard, microSD card slot and good ole’ 3G connectivity. There’s another model too – the Pro – which offers all the above with added WiFi, GPS, and a 2 megapixel camera.

If you’re not convinced yet, perhaps their prices will sway you. The Agora will retail at $299 (£130) and the Pro for $399 (£175) – and that’s minus the contract. To put it into perspective, the recently unleashed Nokia N97 will cost £465 before talks of a contract comes into the equation. Entry-level Android smartphones sound good doesn’t it?

They’re both available for pre-order now (click here) here and will be dispatched on the 29th January.
