HTC's latest model is a QWERTY slider

Looking very much like a close relative of the HTC Diamond and Touch Pro (think of it as their offspring), the new S740 smartphone is HTC’s latest handset that’s sure to inject some much needed style in the mobile market. Unfortunately, there’s no touch screen action with this one. Instead, it has a 12-key numeric keypad, sliding QWERTY keyboard for the two handed messaging experience and runs Windows 6.1 standard – so that kind of makes up for it.

The S740 features the same sleek and sexy design as the Diamond *drool*, which makes it just as covetable as the Diamond when it was first unleashed. And it’s definitely an improvement on the Touch Pro, which has a more basic and straightforward design. Expect internet speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps – that means up to 18 times faster than 3G – a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera, 256 MB flash and 256 MB RAM, a microSD slot, GPS and a range of other standard specs such as WiFi and Bluetooth. As well as all the above, the S740 supports POP3, IMAP and Exchange push email.

Expect to see it as of next month along with its inevitably costly price tag.
