ToolboxFinally, some tool-makers have realised that while we may not buy quite as many tools as the men-folk do, it's not necessarily because we want them to be pink, purple or fluffy.

Tomboy Tools pride themselves on providing "quality tools that are chosen for ergonomic features and being well sized for women." Truly a noble cause. I'm sick of cheap Leatherman knock-offs that pinch your palms if you even attempt to add pressure to them. And I'm not sure I could trust a pink hammer not to fly off the handle (taking my temper with it).

Fluffy_toolsSara was strangely drawn to the pink tool kit, while I experienced a fairly strong feeling of ill-will towards the ladies lavender power tool. If, however, you feel you really must indulge in a girly DIY kit, this "Chick Pink She Driver Set" at least has the advantage of being so silly it's almost good.

It's probably best to gloss over the truly offensive blurb on Paramountzone, however ("Women like pink. Fact. By making tools pink, they instantly become more attractive to the opposite sex, allowing typical man to recline in his armchair and watch football without the near-constant interruption of DIY requests... also suitable for Gay builders.") No one comes out of that looking good.

Girl Power Tool

HandymandyFact is, I'm rather partial to a nice power tool, and have a healthy selection of them at home which I use to wreak devastation and chaos on my flat at regular intervals. But while I may indulge in an ear-blistering squeal of delight at the sight of a pink mobile phone printer, when it comes to tools, I'm old fashioned enough to believe that they should be either green, orange or black. But if you feel you could pull off a lavendar power tool without feeling like a total fanny, good luck to you I say. Sadly, while you might be able to brazen out the pastel power tool, the reviews suggest that once you plug it in, you're going to like a mite foolish. I'd stick with the greenstuff if I were you - although it might be OK as an electric screwdriver.

Pink Toolbox

Toolboxbig2Part of me (the part with no shame) likes this entirely pink tool box. There's also a pink car kit and a (slightly less incongruous) pink travel kit. I can see Cher or Elle in fluffy kitten-heels peering under the bonnet with her pink torch, trying her level best to keep her skirt at a decent height and squeaking with horror at the oil - when a handsome AA man comes up and asks soothingly if she needs any assistance...

...er, sorry. Lapsed into fantasy-land there. In real life, the AA man has a beer gut and a wry smile at your tool box which looks like it ought to include glitter and peel-offable nail varnish.

BUT! As with the Ergo Ensis S laptop, you are allowed to like and buy one of these kits - this is because 10% of any money spent at The Pink Toolbox Company will go to Breast Cancer Care. Enjoy! [Sara Wallen]

Fishing Gear for Women

Fishergirl_1In case you hadn't noticed, I have a bit of a thing for pink kitsch gadgetry. But even I have to draw the line somewhere, and it's fairly safe to say that I would feel a complete twonk sat on a river bank dangling my pink rod into the water... That came out ruder than I meant it. Anyway, I may love a bit of naffery, but I'm not sure I'm up to a pink tackle bag (again, ruder than I intended). But if you reckon you could pull this look off, I wish you every joy. The Tackle Bag with Lure Kit is available from Fishergirl for $29.99.
