I'm off to IFA any minute, and I thought that before throwing myself into a 72-hour whirl of Very Serious Product Launches, I'd leave you with the most unnecessarily horrible and amusing gadget I could find on my trawl around the highways and byways of teh Internets, as I hear it's called by the Youth Of Today.

La Chaise Longue has been all about the bling modding pimping this innocent wired mouse and calculator mouse pad with a swirl of pink crystals. I hear tell of a black version with silver studding, but the whole notion of restrained bling is surely an oxymoron? Price is as yet unknown.

RatMouse%281%29_640.jpg

Computer mice come in all shapes and sizes these days, so it's actually fairly refreshing to come across one that looks... well, like a mouse, really. Actually, some might argue that this USB mouse really looks more like a rat, but these are mere details: it's a rodent attached to your computer - who doesn't want some of that in their life? As well as looking cute, the mouse also contains LED lights, which illuminate when it's powered up. Just like a real mouse, then! Oh no, wait...

07imac_hero.jpgApple's much-rumoured all-in-one iMac range has finally been unveiled, and among the line-up are gorgeous brushed aluminium 20" and 24" widescreen machines. They're all Intel Core 2 Duo- based, of course, and feature the ultra-thin keyboard that is to replace all Apple keyboards in the future. The iSight webcam that has become a staple feature of iMacs is still in place, with iLife '08 on board.

The 20" iMac starts at £799, which Apple is keen to point out shaves £200 off previous models, despite boasting an even slimmer and more elegant design. The 24" iMac starts at £1,349 with a similar saving; Apple is clearly eager to address the persistent whisperings that Mac hardware is too expensive. More about the specifications and look after the jump.

solar_mouse.jpg

Yes, how many puns on "solar" can Alex manage in one header indeed. Still, a little eco-friendly goodness of a Monday morning does us all some good. This elegant photovoltaic - that's solar powered to you and me - wireless mouse probably needs no further description or explanation... but you're going to get some anyway because this is still a concept that's been four years in the making. Head over the jump for the technical details.

pink-pc-box.jpg

Before you get excited, it doesn't actually make your laptop itself pink. But I figure if you actually want a kit like this, you already have a pink laptop. You know, for someone who doesn't especially like the colour, I seem to be writing the word "pink" a lot today.

This £18 kit is probably only for the seriously pink-deprived though. Ultimately what it comprises of is a pink wireless mini-mouse suitable for Mac or Windows PC, a dongle for linking said mouse to your computer and a pink mousemat in a metal tin. I'm not sure that can really be called a kit, but grab a spray bottle loaded with Pepto Bismol and your office decoration is probably good to go.

medion_tesco_pc.JPGMedion's supermarket-friendly approach and budget devices have been steadily increasing its popularity, and their new PC is no exception to their rule of good performance at affordable prices. The 6486 PC is a high-end desktop which, for £550, offers an Intel Core 2 Duo chipset (E6750 for those of you who like to do your research), Vista Home Premium edition, DVD RW drive, NVIDIA graphics card and an HDMI port. 2GB of RAM and 500GB hard drive are standard. It's designed to handle 3D gaming and Vista's hefty graphic load so it's targetted specifically at home users, which explains some of the other added features, too.

mouse-u-lator.jpg It must be tough being the ideas man for gadget manufacturers. What do you do when asked to design a new mouse? Stick some Swarovski crystals on it or make it a ridiculous shape? Well, apparently combining it with a calculator seems wise for the tech-heads at Lexibook.

This USB device combines an optical mouse with scrolling wheel, a calculator and a numerical keyboard in one. Possibly a great idea for laptop users who're number crunching all day, but otherwise it just seems a bit unnecessary. I can't help but feeling that all you'd end up doing is accidentally pressing numbers everytime you try to scroll down a page. A recipe for sore wrists everywhere. If you think this is the solution you've always been waiting for it's a grand old price of £14.95 from Prezzybox.

SlimG4.jpg

Well, with a thickness of just 5mm, there's no denying that this mouse is slim. Is it the thinnest mouse in the world, though, that's the question? It certainly looks like it could be. Despite its diminutive size, though, this mouse somehow managed to conceal a USB cable in the casing, and it also has a tiny little touch wheel on the front. It'll slip into your PCMCIA slot for easy storage (neat freaks will love it) and it even comes in four different colours - blue, pink, silver and ivory. Not bad for £24.99, even it turns out not to be the "thinnest in the world" after all.

Their new version is specially designed for those of us that have loads of media on our computer. With a flick of a switch, the X54 changes from your basic mouse, to a multimedia mouse, complete with the ability to adjust the volume, and switch between tracks or scenes of a film.

It'll be £54.99 when it becomes available in August.

pink%20laptop%20notino.JPG

According to Hi-Grade, "this is a notebook that says it loud - it's pink and it's proud!" and they're not kidding. The deep fuschia of this slimline notebook definitely makes a statement. What's under the hood? Well, for a budget, £499 laptop, it's packing a fair bit in. There's a 120GB hard drive, dual-format DVD/CD rewriter, Intel Core Due processor and 1GB memory, so it's got nothing to blush about. The comfortable 15.4" widescreen and Intel Speedstep power saving battery means its relatively portable, too.

It comes with a much more subtle black carry case but if you do want to match laptop to accessories peripherals such as a pink case (+£17.63 on the full price) the pink Beetle-shaped mouse (£12.98) and "Bow Wow" pink terrier pup-shaped external speakers (£24.99) are available.

What happens when a computer mouse breeds with a remote control? The MX Air Mouse. Logitech have crafted a pretty slinky-looking mouse and made it very clever; it now works just as well in the air as it does on the desk. Using what they call Freespace motion-control technology, gesture command and wireless, you can sit back and wave the mouse at your computer from a distance, enjoying, for example, flicking through your MP3 collection from the other side of the room. A touch sensitive scroll-panel replaces the scroll wheel and there are large, backlit orange control buttons so that you can be a much more technologically gifted holiday pic bore (once you've got the projector set up). Oh, go on, admit it. You're a little bit excited. It's okay, we are too.

bamboomouse.jpgOkay, so it's a little parsimonious but they wouldn't want us spending lots of money, time and most importantly energy sending them a present for doing their bit and helping us save the world. As green gadgets go, this optical mouse is a symbol of welcoming new technologies whilst staying aware of issues of biodegradability and sustainability.

Or it's a way of people getting off your back for not having a wormery. As you wish. £18.99.

At first glance, the Vertical Mouse looks all wrong and I instinctively want to tip it back over again -- but I'm a Little Endian. It's supposed to be more ergonomic than the mouse we all currently use, with a shape to "support your hand in a fully upright handshake position which reduces pain and strain from the forearm twisting you get from a normal mouse". No, it doesn't slide sideways when you click. As usual, it's for Windows (although the site does have a link to a shareware Mac driver). Comes in silver and black and has models for both lefties and righties. $80. [GT]

Cats and mice don't normally enjoy this kind of close relationship, but this is a cat who's guaranteed to get on with all the mice you can throw at it, for this is none other than Cable Cat. Cable Cat makes it his job to tidy up that loose mouse cable, by clutching it in his little paws, wrestling it to the ground, and looking cute while he does it. Who needs a wireless mouse when you can have a Cable Cat for only 5,50 euros?

Get your mouse squeaky-clean with Belkin

wash_mouse.jpg

I'm forever cleaning my grubby little keyboard and mouse, not because of germophobia (I made that up, even though there's a real word for it somewhere) but because it just drives me a bit mad when it's dirty. Whether you're a neat freak or the sort of person who keeps cleaning products in their handbag for emergencies, you're bound to appreciate this new washable mouse from Belkin.

Just unplug the USB and pop it under your tap and that water-resistant gadget comes up sparkling. They've also brought out a protective carry case aptly named the mouse trap, so you can keep it clean and protected if you're going on some business trip or other. The Belkin washable mouse hits shops in August, so you'll have to stick to tentatively prodding yours with a washcloth for now.

Sony have just launched two new models of PC mice - the colourful SMU-C3 and the slimline SMU-M10. The C3 comes in pink, green, black and white, while the M10 is a little more downbeat, and is available in black, white and grey - it is, however, rather more slimline than its two-tone counterpart, and has a built in groove which will allow you to wrap the cable around it and keep it nice and neat in your laptop bag. Both models feature 800dpi optical sensors and wide scroll wheels and work with Windows 2000, XP and Vista, as well as with Mac OSX, up to version 10.2.

What the Globlink GM-521 Ring Mouse lacks in fashion sense (at 3cm square and 2cm thick, it's a triple martini cocktail ring) it makes up for in portability. Housing a tiny trackball and three buttons, it has a 1000cpi resolution and optional scrolling button or laser pointer. It's also surprisingly lacking in bling for a "ring" mouse; hold out for the Swarovski version. [GT]

wow-pen-full.jpg

The Wow Pen Eco is both an inexpensive (albeit less functional) alternative to an art tablet, and a potential solution for carpal tunnel sufferers. Shaped like a pen rather than a traditional lozenge, it changes your grip in a way that means less strain on your wrist. Though the reviewer noted it is nowhere near as nice as a tablet in applications like Photoshop, it's also much more portable than typical mice, and wireless. However, at only 400 DPI, the reviewer -- after being increasingly annoyed by how inaccurate the tracking was -- was also keenly looking forward to the upcoming 800 dpi version.
