“Only 93% of popular movies were directed by men.” 70 women tell Hollywood to #MakeItFair

This brilliant spoof by 70 actresses calls on Hollywood to make the movie industry fair, and give men 100% of the spoils:

In their own words:

#makeitfair is a call for gender equality in the stories we tell, the wages we earn, and the future we shape. The goal is vast and so, as artists, we decided to do what we do best: create. Our first video involves a cast and crew of more than 70 women, underscoring the wealth of female talent that often goes untapped. As we move forward, we will continue to raise awareness, ask tough questions, celebrate female talent, connect female artists to opportunities, laugh, create, and broaden the scope of the stories being told. We encourage you to use the hashtag #makeitfair to ask questions and spark conversations within your own networks.

Women appearing in the video include Friends and Breaking Bad actress Jessica Hecht, and Sleepless in Seattle and Runaway Bride’s Rita Wilson.

At the time of writing, the video hasn’t yet broken 150,000 hits on YouTube – less than the trailer for Lesbian Vampire Killers. We think it deserves to go really viral, so please give it a hand and share it with your networks. Men, that includes you.
