Apple Watch gets its first US magazine cover debut with Candice Swanepoel

The Apple Watch is rumoured to launch to the US and UK markets within the next few months, so it’s no surprise that the highly-anticipated wearable is starting to do the media rounds. It’ll be fascinating to see where the Apple PR team places the gadget and which kinds of audiences they try and align their first ever wearable with (I’m guessing: ALL OF THEM). Well, it looks like the first stateside placement has been decided: SELF magazine.

The Apple Watch already cracked Vogue China back in October when model Liu Wen posed with an orange device, but according to SELF magazine’s website the watch will soon be seen on the arm of supermodel Candice Swanepoel on the cover of its next issue.

SELF magazine reveals that the March cover will feature the upcoming Apple device and the Victoria’s Secret model in a sporty shoot and an editor’s letter focused on what the team love the most about the device. Spoiler: it’s all the health and fitness related features:

‘Aside from all the overall productivity the device offers, we’re zeroing in on the health aspects: Using an accelermeter, a built-in heart rate sensor, GPS and WiFi from your iPhone to provide a comprehensive picture of your daily activity; consequently, measures three separate aspects of movement: calories burned, brisk activity and how often you stand up during the day.’

Given that the focus is on health and fitness we imagine the magazine will have chosen one of the more colourful, sportier design options, like the lime green colour way in the main image.

It’s no surprise that Apple has set out to begin its PR efforts in fashion and lifestyle titles given the company has made a number of hires from fashion brands like Burberry and Louis Vuitton over the past few years and have made efforts to design a device that screams lifestyle rather than tech geek.

Let’s take bets on which UK title will snap up the Apple Watch first… Grazia? Vogue UK? Or maybe Wired?
