Twitter Offers are discounts you can nab from your timeline

Twitter’s been playing around with the idea of buying items directly from your Twitter feed for a little while now, and now something new is being brought to the table: the opportunity to grab yourself a discount directly from your timeline with Twitter Offers.

The process is quite simple, participating retailers will offer the discount in a tweet, and provided you have a credit or debit card linked up to your account you can use it to save yourself a bit of money. Just make sure you use the same card when you complete the transaction(online or in-store) and you’re good to go.

According to Re/code Twitter will be charging companies to promote the deal, and in the near future could actually charge them for every deal and discount that gets claimed. That doesn’t affect use users that much, but if it means less adverts and more savings then I’m all for it.

Discounts will start appearing on Twitter today, but it’s unclear whether they’ll only be available in certain regions. Presumably it all depends on the location of the companies willing to pay Twitter to promote the deal, but it wouldn’t be surprising if this is restricted to the US for the time being. We’ll just have to see what starts popping up in our timelines.
