Google says no to ‘Free’ tag on apps

Google has agreed to clarify the ‘free status’ of some of the apps on its Play Store. Following on from a release by the European Commission Google it  has agreed to strip the ‘Free’ tag back on any apps who offer IAP (In App Purchases).

The widespread use of the word ‘Free’ on apps with IAP has generated controversy for the Play Store, especially for parents, whose kids have ‘accidentally’ spent hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars on some extra gems to make their kingdom bigger or make a Temple Run guy stronger.

It will be interesting to see if Apple follows suit and strips its ‘Free’ tag from the AppStore apps with IAP.
