People are making absurd amounts of wealth by creating apps for smartphones, so it was only a matter of time before already-absurdly wealthy celebrities tried to get in on the action too.
Increasingly seeing apps as part of their personal brand portfolio, to sit alongside perfumes and calendars, celebs like Lindsay Lohan and will.i.an are creating apps as a way to tap into the social media boom and engage with fans, while convincing the world at large that they’re media savvy and willing to embrace new technology.
We’ve picked just some of the most notable celeb virtual entrepreneurs and their apps.
Alicia Keys - The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee
Back in 2012, Alicia Keys launched an interactive app for kids called "The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee," about the relationship between a young New York City girl and her wise grandmother.
Available for £1.49, Alicia produced the music for the app, which is set in LeeLee's bedroom and allows users to read books, play music and write in a journal.
The app was released by her own company, AK Worldwide, and Bento Box Interactive, and can be downloaded here.
