Activité: We love this luxury activity tracking watch from Withings

Here at shinyshiny we pride ourselves on knowing all about the latest news in wearables and activity trackers. This means we know what to expect from a modern day tracker: fairly accurate data, some gaping holes and… more often that not… a bulky plastic strap. But Withings is now reinventing activity tracking and turning it into something that looks… let’s face it… incredible.

Yes it sounds shallow, but activity trackers are designed to be strapped to you 24/7, which means it has to look good if it’s going to stand the test of time. Even the Jawbone Up24, which is often considered one of the most stylish trackers on the market, looks a little child-like on my wrist after a couple of weeks of wear.

Well enter the Withings Activité, on the surface it’s a high-end, Swiss-made, analogue watch with a huge, clear face and subtle leather straps that come in black or brown. But take a closer look and you’ll see this wearable has combined a super stylish design with the latest tracking tech. The watch has a number of built-in sensors and an accelerometer, meaning it can monitor steps taken, calories burned, distance traveled and sleep patterns. While we’re talking about sleep, it also has the same smart vibrating alarm system we’ve seen from the likes of the Jawbone Up and Misfit Shine, which is sure to give these more ugly wearables a run for their money. The watch connects up to iOS devices through Bluetooth and works alongside the Withings Health Mate app – so it’s not just collecting data, it’ll do something meaningful with it, too.

Let’s talk more about how amazing it looks, shall we? The watch is made of stainless steel 316L, with a crystal of unbreakable sapphire glass, which includes touch screen capabilities to tap between different modes. It comes with a leather strap, but you can switch it out for a plastic one if you want to take it swimming with you.

The Withings Activité will be available to buy in the autumn (that’s as specific as it gets, I’m afraid) for $390, which works out at around £230.

We should also mention, that if you’re a fan of design the product page for the Withings Activité is a thing of pure beauty.
