Are you guilty of listening to the radio while you’re working, in order to have some background noise, only to get distracted and start singing along to your favourite song instead of writing? Don’t worry, that exact moment just happened to us, but now there’s a new app, Noisli, which its makers claims provides the exact background noise needed to keep you motivated!
It works be generating background noise, with everything from rain, fire and wind, to the buzz of a coffee shop.
A study, published in the Journal of Consumer Research, found that ‘a level of ambient noise typical of a bustling coffee shop or a television playing in a living room, about 70 decibels, enhanced performance compared with the relative quiet of 50 decibels’, however this only applies to creative work.
The study said: “Projects that require paying close attention to detail, like proofreading a paper or doing your taxes are performed better in quiet environments.”
So, if you’re trying to get into the zone, but keep getting distracted by anything and everything, Noisli might be worth a spin.
