10 Best video editing apps for the iPhone: iMovie, Viddy and iSupr8

There are all kinds of photo editing apps on the iTunes store, from a library full of run-of-the-mill retro filters that make your photos look like grainy keepsakes from the 70’s, through to those that stretch your face around and turn your surroundings into sketches, the choice is pretty endless.

But the iPhone 4 now brings us great quality video too, so where are all the VIDEO editing apps that can give us similar effects to some of our good ol’ photo favourites?

Over a year ago Anna wrote a list featuring five of her favourite video editing apps and she was pretty disappointed with the lack of choice.

Even a year on there still aren’t that many to shout about. Sure there are some good new additions, but I only really (luckily) found ten that I wanted to feature and three had already appeared in Anna’s list last year.

There are plenty of others that fullfil specific roles, like just adding music or making video slideshows out of the photos you already have, but really there’s very little choice when it comes to comprehensive video apps that let you edit video, add in and delete clips, make transitions, add filters AND share to your social networks all in one package.

Here’s our top ten featuring a few old and a few new, a few that are really comprehensive and a few that are clearly lacking in some areas but do bring something a bit different to the table:

  • VideoShow APP is quite easy to use and provide various fliters and themes, music, etc. it’s completely free. With Ultra cut function, it could remix video in one step:) Just go Google Play or App store to have a try

  • I have a created Magisto like video app. It is called “GrooveVideo” for iPhone. If you like to use Magisto, you would love to use it. It is simpler, easier and faster. It doesn’t save outcomes onto cloud server, so it is much safer in some sense. You would love to see how GrooveVideo places videos clips onto proper beats of music. Unlikely any other apps out ther, it focuses how video clips and music should be merged properly. Hope that you like it.

  • In my opinion one of the best video editing apps for iPhone and iPad is Videocraft. It is a complete multi-track video editor and movie maker full of features, unlimited video clips and photos, trim crop, scale, add music, voice recording, sound effects, images from your camera roll, text with different fonts and sizes, blur to censor part of the videos, reverse, slow/fast motion, choose the aspect ratio, background color, etc.

  • Thanks for the article very interesting. Video FX+ http://bit.ly/Kz5FaG is also another good video editing app. It's different to the above list because it lets you add the effects whilst you record.

  • Thanks for the good article. I also have a lot of interest in Camera apps, and found a new app which has great filter effects: you can download and check it out from the link. goo.gl/dsQQ1I expect a post about this kind of non-popular apps as well.

  • Would be really handy if the reviewers of the various app’s would create as list of all the things you might want in an app & tick them off if they have them.
These reviews are nice but a bit ambiguous.
    Thanks

  • I upload my video to a hosting site so I don’t have to keep it on my phone but if I could edit the video before I upload it that would be great. I’m either taking video of my kids or watching video on my iPhone with the help of my DISH Network Sling Adapter. I love how convenient it is to watch live or recorded TV anywhere I go when I have time to kill. I get HD quality from my DISH HD employee receiver and it looks so good on my iPhone. I remember old movies of me as a kid and it would be fun to have some of my kids that look the same. iSupr8 has my vote!

  • This time, instead of getting a video editor to work on your personal video clip, you can do it yourself just by using this video app called Videolicious app.

  • iSupr8 is a video recorder which grades each pixel based on exposure adding old school effects and film-burn.

  • Do you want to create a masterpiece out of the raw video clip of your son’s first birthday? This time, instead of getting a video editor to work on your personal video clip, you can do it yourself just by using this video app called Videolicious app. Imagine, you want to create a video of cooking your own created recipe and want to make it look great and send it to Martha Stewart or to any other online magazine. What will you do? This Videolicious app will enable you create a masterpiece from raw, uncut version of your video and also makes the whole process easier and faster. It takes three simple steps to incorporate photos and music to your video footage to create a professional looking video from an uncut version, in a documentary style. You can easily upload and share with your contacts from social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

  • Since getting my iPhone I’ve enjoyed creating short clips and posting them on my Facebook account, but never really did any editing on the device. So, I blew some cash in the App Store to try out video editing apps for the iPhone and post my findings here. Like many, if not most App Store junkies, I download based on positive feedback (no fewer than 3 stars), and secondly, on the screenshots – UI design is very important to me.
