Notorious forum site 4chan has bubbled back into public consciousness with a spate of porn videos disguised as children's TV programmes. As part of a co-ordinated attack they uploaded hundreds of misleadingly tagged porn videos to Youtube, claiming it as revenge for when Youtube took a lot of music videos down early last year.
Youtube has since deleted the videos but according to the BBC: "The material was uploaded under names of famous teenage celebrities such as Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers. Many started with footage of children's videos before groups of adults performing graphic sex acts appeared on screen."
The nasty attack has brought 4chan again to the attention of the mainstream media, for whom the porn and hacker filled forum site epitomises the worst of the internet.
However the 4chan attackers got some surprising support from commenters on BBC story:
Uh -what? I'm just glad Jona from Sweden wasn't responsible for my sex ed. It's no shock commenters on the internet can be a bit weird, but I wonder if people's reaction to porn has been so normalised by the internet that reactions are a lot less strong.
Anyway another inglorious episode from 4chan, which hopefully was too short-lived to affect many children, but certainly set the internet back a little bit in eyes of the paper media.
