Ah, Wallace & Gromit. Ah, the iPhone. AAAAHHH they're coming together (!!) In a great partnership this week, much-loved British TV characters Wallace and Gromit are appearing - for free - on the iPhone in a comics app created by Titan publishing. The first story 'the W files' is free (for the meantime, download quickly) ... then there are three others: 'Parts & Labour', 'Big in Japan' and 'Where there's Muck there's Brass' costing £0.59 ($0.99) each.
In the first instalment - the W files, the story is told in 59 full-colour screens which you move along by swiping the screen.
The plot runs thus:
"When strange shapes and flashing lights are seen in the night sky, there are only two paranormal investigators that can solve the problem. Sadly they aren't available so Wallace and Gromit might as well have a crack at it. After all, what could possibly go wrong....?!"
Sounds excellent.
As the Titan spokesman puts it: "it's only fitting that the characters responsible for the BunVac 6000 and Techno Trousers should become pioneers of an exciting new technology."
Other comics will also shortly become available from Titan... including strips written by Dan Abnett (Legion, Nova, The Authority) and Simon Furman (Transformers, Terminator 2 comic), with more to be released in the following weeks.
I'm really looking forward to this. I read newspapers on my iPhone (thank you New York Times app) and would love to get into reading comics too...
Other interesting comic book reading apps include the ComicReader mobi (£8.99 - full app, free - lite) and many individual comics can be downloaded invidually by title - Hellboy, Vol 1, for example. Not Ghost World - my fav - sadly.
